In order to strengthen and modernize its video surveillance system, the municipality of Vendin-Le-Vieil opted for an innovative approach that gave it complete control over both the costs and the functional aspects of the chosen solution.

In Vendin-Le-Vieil, the areas surrounding schools and municipal buildings, certain sections of public roads, and the entrances and exits of the municipality are equipped with video surveillance systems. The municipal area also houses a high-security prison. In accordance with Article L251-2 of the Internal Security Code, the video surveillance system is installed to ensure: the safety of individuals, the protection of public buildings, the prevention of property damage, the fight against drug trafficking, the prevention of terrorist acts, and the detection of traffic violations. Information signs for public road users are installed at the entrances to the municipality and on municipal buildings.

The ability offered by CamTrace to set up a prototype using trial licenses that allowed the software to be tested under real-world conditions was a decisive factor.
After the POC was validated, the city of Vendin-Le-Vieil was able to launch a procurement process with a clear understanding of the software components required to achieve its objectives.
The city’s 130 cameras are managed directly by three CamTrace servers. This highly efficient architecture can be maintained by city staff, who wished to retain primary control over the solution (passwords, user profiles, display stations, adding cameras), while the physical maintenance of the cameras and network is handled by external service providers.
To ensure full autonomy, Municipal Police personnel underwent training on the maintenance and operation of the SIRION 16 VMS.
