Coming from the IT world and dedicated to videosurveillance, the Camtrace company was created in 2004.
As soon as IP cameras appeared, Camtrace built a solution designed to offer a stable and powerful video surveillance environment.

Specialists in open systems and open source software, Camtrace has naturally chosen the path of a strong integration of its video application with the system layers. This choice allowed, from the beginning, to offer a software package including the operating system, a relational database and an integrated video application. This highly original offer has enabled our customers and partners to offer fully integrated appliance servers.

The relevance of these choices has not been denied and CamTrace is still the only VMS (Video Management Software) that integrates all the system tools necessary for its deployment and maintenance.

We claim 10.000 video surveillance installations mainly in France but also spread over 15 countries.

Our customers are very varied: local authorities, cities, education, tertiary sector, industry, hospitals and clinics, logistics and transport, distribution, sales outlets, law enforcement/security.

With a single lineage of CamTrace from the outset, lifetime licenses, possible migration to new hardware, CamTrace ensures “programmed durability” and drastically reduces the total cost of ownership of a medium to large video surveillance installation.

CamTrace installations are designed for customers who want to integrate their video surveillance into the company’s overall information system. Our teams know how to interact with IT managers as well as security managers. CamTrace solutions are virtualizable and have open APIs.

Typically, a CamTrace installation ranges from 10 to 200 cameras; but we also have many references above 500 and up to 2000 cameras.

The operating system on which CamTrace is based is an ‘Xubuntu 22.04’ (9.16 CamTrace version). The architecture, which historically was web-based, has evolved into a heavy visualization client. Today Camtrace keeps a web interface for all system administration but also offers an operating client software running on Windows, Mac and Linux.
